Students from the Passages Transition Program and Mahtomedi High School’s Work-Based Learning Program recently participated in the Washington County Interagency Transition Committee (CTIC) Career Skills Day.
Career Skills Day is an all-day event centered on vocational exploration and job acquisition skills. The event featured various activities, all aimed at preparing students for the transition into the workforce. Students rotated through five events: applications, interviews, vendors/networking, BINGO, and Big Ideas vocational simulations.
The presence of Big Ideas was a significant highlight of this year's event. With a mission to inform, inspire, and connect curious learners ages 13+ to career paths and professionals in skilled trades, Big Ideas offered hands-on and virtual vocational simulations spanning over 30 different career fields. The students were particularly thrilled with the virtual reality headsets and hands-on experiences.
Career Skills Day is planned and organized by CTIC, which includes Work Coordinators from all six Washington County school districts, State Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors, Washington County Social Workers, Employment Specialists, and Disability supports. Mahtomedi staff members Maija Stellmach from Mahtomedi High School and Jenna Veenis from the Passages Transition Program are part of the CTIC board. CTIC plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of this important event for students.
