Track and Field Bil Gangyl Relay

No matter rain, snow, or sunshine, for 15 years Mahtomedi community members have gathered for the Bil Gangl relay walk. In 2024, the event was held from 8 am until 8 pm on Friday, April 19. To see the relay in action, click here to watch a video from the 2024 relay.

During the relay, Mahtomedi track and field students, Middle School students, staff, family members of Bil Gangl, and community members walk the track at Mahtomedi High School. The event serves as a fundraiser for both the Bil Gangl Fund at Regions Hospital and Mahtomedi Track and Field. When people walk, they hold batons as a symbol to keep going in Mr. Gangl’s memory.

Bil Gangl was a Mahtomedi Middle School staff member from 1990 to 2009. He taught Technology Education and was a track and field coach. In 1997, he received the Mahtomedi Teacher of the Year award. He passed away in 2009 due to cancer and received his treatment at Regions Hospital. His wife Megan continues his legacy by pouring positive energy into the relay, Bil Gangl Fund, and the Mahtomedi Middle School teacher award.

The Bil Gangl Memorial Fund at Regions Hospital has provided crucial support to nearly 500 individuals. This fund, dedicated to helping cancer patients focus on their loved ones and cherished memories during treatment, has lightened their burden and brought joy to their lives. By funding special items, activities, and family events, the Bil Gangl Memorial Fund has made a significant difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families.
