Jessi Pierce, a Class of 2006 Mahtomedi High School alumna, is a prominent sports reporter in Minnesota who credits Mahtomedi as heavily influencing the person she has become. “Mahtomedi taught me grand things were possible, and with the right work ethic, your dreams are attainable.”
In her career, Pierce provides daily coverage of the Minnesota Wild for the National Hockey League (NHL). She is a frequent guest on radio and podcast shows locally and nationally. Her media bylines include the NHL, USA Hockey, Minnesota Hockey, and The Athletic. Pierce is the co-host of the popular podcast Bardown Beauties, where she and co-host Kirsten Krull provide hockey fans with an inside look at Minnesota Hockey, including college and the Minnesota Wild.
Not only has Jessi Pierce excelled in her career, but she has also been an active contributor to the Mahtomedi Public Schools community. In the spring of 2023, she lent her professional media insight to the district branding team, playing a crucial role in the development of the district’s new logo and messaging. Over the last two years, Pierce has provided career talks to Mahtomedi students about entering the field of sports media. Recently speaking to Mahtomedi High School students during Flex time, and to Mahtomedi Middle School students during Career Day. During the career talks, students learned about what it’s like to work in sports media, including a typical game day schedule as well as how to gain experience, including interview and storytelling tips. Pierce has also provided job shadowing opportunities to Mahtomedi students and alumni looking to enter the sports media field. On April 12, community members will have the opportunity to meet Pierce at the Zephyr Gala, the Mahtomedi Area Educational Foundation’s annual fundraising event, where she will serve as emcee.
