Carole Fargo, a teacher at Wildwood Elementary School, a principal at O.H. Anderson Elementary School, and an assistant superintendent at Mahtomedi Public Schools, was a passionate advocate for the fine arts in children's lives. While bravely fighting ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease, Carole established a financial endowment, managed by the Mahtomedi Area Educational Foundation (MAEF), to support Mahtomedi students in kindergarten through 11th grade who display interest and talent in the visual arts to attend a summer fine arts camp or activity.

Julia NaffJulia Naff, a student at O.H. Anderson Elementary School, was a recipient of the 2023 Carole Fargo Summer Enrichment Scholarship, which allowed her to attend two summer sessions of "Drawing and Painting Fundamentals for Children" at the Art Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota.

When Julia was asked about her favorite aspect of attending classes, she replied, "I was able to choose pictures to draw that represent myself. The instructors provided me with books and materials with ideas for what to draw, and I chose the ones that helped me show my personality.”
